This and That

Whether or not this makes any sense, I feel like there's a lot going on, but nothing really happening right now.

Maya's busy with fifth grade homework and a lot of activities.  She has school band (alto sax) and chorus, which each require an hour-early start one day a week, volleyball, which means one practice and one game a week, and three dance classes (hip-hop, jazz, and ballet) over two evenings a week.  This is her favorite year of school, so far, and we owe a lot of thanks to her first-year teacher, Mr. B.

Herb's back to a crazy work schedule that includes two jobs, a food business (smoker) with a friend, and still barbering for his regular clients.  When does he sleep?  Rarely.  So far, he does manage to keep Sundays at least mostly free for Maya and me.

I'm still waiting to learn whether my current job is going to transition from a hospital position to working for the affiliated university.  Besides a different reporting structure, I'll have access to more resources for my library users, plus more job security and better benefits for me.  Fingers, toes, and everything possible crossed.

We put off looking at new houses until the spring.  With winter coming, this isn't an ideal time to put our house on the market.  Our next-door neighbors' house is also for sale, and we're interested to see their final sale price before moving ahead.

At least we have plenty of time to get our little projects done around the house now, though I warned Herb I won't want to move if we get everything just the way we want!  Maya has her heart set on a particular middle school, though, so moving is our only option if our petition to change districts is, as expected, denied by the local public school system.

Maya and I are looking forward to trick-or-treating on Friday night.  Hopefully, my zombie cheerleader lets me share a photo or two with you.  If you celebrate, I hope you have a spook-tacular Halloween!

Hope all is well with you as October comes to a close.

My job has also gone through a merge and corporate restructuring. It feels like you have to jump through so many hoops, and it takes a million years for anything to get approved. Plus, the managers have so many people under them. I understand your frustration.
